PhD title:

"The Neural underpinnings of Social and Emotional Processing in the Human Brain"

Description of Project:

We investigated the processing of emotive faces in the human brain using functional neuroimaging techniques. "Emotive" implies those faces that are able to induce emotion in the viewer and thus includes the study of faces deemed to be attractive or untrustworthy along with those that are overtly emotional. A network of brain regions that engage in such visual processing was identified and the conditions under which these regions are employed characterised. An important dissociation was established between brain areas that are automatically recruited by emotive faces and those whose behaviour is modulated by the task performed by the viewer.
