Students from other Departments - Ancillary Registration
This applies to students from departments other than mathematics who are going to take a mathematics module in 2013-2014. Timetables, syllabuses and Mathematics Dept module forms can be found on the maths web-page, or you can ask in the Mathematics office (Room 610). In all cases you will also need to choose the module on Portico (if it is not already there as a compulsory module).
1. Students who do NOT need to complete any Mathematics dept procedures
You do not need to do any Mathematics departmental procedures if:
a) Your mathematics module(s) is/are compulsory;
b) You are a first or second year student from Engineering choosing MATH6500 / MATH 6501 / MATH6502 as advised by your home department;
c) You are a second or third year from Economics choosing MATH6403 as advised by your home department;
d) You are a first year student from Chemistry choosing MATH6105 / MATH6106 as advised by your home department.
2. Students who should complete a mathematics department form, but do not necessarily need to discuss it
If (i) you wish to take one of the following standard choices - (a) MATH6101 or (b) MATH6103 or (c) MATH6105 and/or MATH6106 and are sure you have the right prerequisites (neither under-qualified nor overqualified);
or (ii) you are a SSEES student choosing one of the standard options MATH6101, MATH103 or MATH6401 and are sure you have the right prerequisites (neither under-qualified nor overqualified);
then you can simply fill in the Maths form and (preferably) e-mail it to m.l.roberts AT ucl.ac.uk with subject line ANCILLARY OPTIONS or hand it in at the Maths office (Room 610) without further discussion; then enter the module(s) on PORTICO. It is important that you include your e-mail address so we can discuss any queries with you.
Normal prerequisites for these modules
MATH6101: no A-level Mathematics
MATH6103: A-level grade C or D or E (or possibly B)
MATH6105: grade A or possibly B in A-level Maths, OR good result in MATH6101 or MATH6103 in previous year.
MATH6401: grade A or possibly B in A-level Maths (SSEES students).
Students with grade B at A-level Maths or those with alternative qualifications should discuss their choice.
3. Students who should come for advice in Mathematics
All those not included under 1 or 2 above. This is particularly important if you wish to take a Maths honours module.
Please first fill in a mathematics departmental form with your details and bring that with you to one of the advice sessions. If you do not do this, your choice may not be approved.
You can also look on the noticeboard or ask in the Mathematics office, Room 610.
Please come to Room 707 in the Mathematics Department (7th floor, 25 Gordon Street) with your completed form at one of the following times:
|Tuesday 24 September 2013||2.00 – 4.00|
|Wednesday 25 September 2013||2.00 – 4.00|
|Thursday 26 September 2013||2.00 – 4.00|
|Friday 27 September 2013||2.00 – 4.00|
You then need to enter the module on PORTICO
Please note that all choices of mathematics modules will need to be approved on PORTICO by both the Maths department and by your home department before your module registration is confirmed.
Late choice/problems: please see Dr Roberts in Room 604A, Mathematics Department (6th floor, 25 Gordon St)
