 1. I am delighted to announce the following two Lecturer appointments:

(a) Dr Ewelina Zatorska has been appointed Lecturer in Applied Mathematics from October 2017
This post was made possible by a generous donation to the department in the will of Howard Davies, a former, long-serving, member of the department.

(b) Dr Ed Segal (see my news email 7 Dec 2016) has been appointed Lecturer in Algebraic Geometry from September 2017

2. Many congratulations to Matthew Scroggs for winning a Provost's Teaching Award in the Postgraduate Teaching Assistant category.

These awards are exceptionally competitive (only 8 were awarded across UCL this year): an outstanding achievement by Matthew.

3. Many congratulations to Ekaterini Katsouri  (MSc Mathematical Modelling 2015-16) for winning the MAPS Faculty Postgraduate Taught (MSc) Prize.

Stephen Muirhead's achievements as a Mathematics PhD student were also recognised in the same Postgraduate Prize announcement with a ''Dean's Commendation''

4. Following successful nomination by the IMA, Anna Lambert (PhD student) attended (and asked a question) at the Commons Select Committee 'Voice of the Future' event.
