Prospective Students
Astrophysics is one of the most interesting and exciting subjects to study, and developing an understanding of the nature and physics of the Universe is deeply rewarding.
Being based on a firm mathematical and physics foundation, it prepares a student for many careers both inside and outside of the field. UCL gives students an advantage by offering an integrated astronomy and astrophysics programme, rather than merely extending a basic physics degree with a few astronomy modules. Topics such as spectroscopy, thermodynamics and quantum theory are taught in an astrophysical context. One of the key areas that makes UCL stand out is that in-depth practical work takes place at the UCL Observatory (UCLO), breeding a familiarity with instrumentation and methods.
Prospective students can find full details of the Astrophysics BSc and MSci degrees on offer at the UCL prospectus for undergraduate courses.
An internationally renowned reputation for being at the forefront of world-leading research and providing high-class teaching. Those joining us can expect to be part of a dynamic community of physicists and astrophysicits whose enthusiasm for science and innovation is exceptional.
UCLO remains active in scientific inquiry, with strong observational programmes in studying targets such as extrasolar planets and microlensing sources. We are continually expanding our observing capabilities through our programme of instrumentation development, and through unattended (robotic) observing modes, as well as ensuring that our students gain a complete educational experience through hands-on training.
