Comprising senior representatives from a diverse range of sectors, the Industrial Advisory Board provides independent advice on the evolving needs of industry and the future direction of systems engineering capability. Its members contribute to curriculum development, research relevance, professional practice and long-term strategic foresight, helping ensure that UCLse remains at the forefront of systems education, research, and industrial impact.

Sham Musthapha
Senior Engineering Manager, Boeing Defence UK

Currently department leader for Systems Engineering, Engineering Strategy development, internal R&D activities, PLM and Engineering Business Operations at Boeing Defence UK. I also am the Engineering Manager for our Engineering Graduate programme. I have previously been the acting Training Services Chief Engineer alongside my department role. I am also a rep on the STEM Strategy Committee for Boeing in the UK. I have previously worked for Ultra Electronics (Command and Control Systems) as a Design Authority, Thales as a Systems Engineer for Autonomous Systems and DSTL on future concepts.

Ivan Mactaggart
Head of Engineering: Systems & Digital Engineering, East West Railway

Ivan is a Chartered Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in Engineering Leadership including, animal-inspired robotics scale-up Animal Dynamics, MBDA Missile Systems, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and the Atomic Weapons Establishment. He is currently Head of Digital Delivery at East West Rail Co, and a Visiting Fellow in Systems Engineering at Loughborough University. Ivan’s experience includes identification, development, implementation of Engineering Capability and Improvement including Digital Transformations. Ivan is a Past President of IfSE (2016-18), and a former Chair of the IfSE UK Advisory Board. A Fellow of the IET, and the Chartered Management Institute, and a former member of the Engineering Council Quality Assurance Committee, Ivan is an Industry Advisor for UCL and The Open University. Ivan is currently conducting PhD research on the role of system functions in complex system design.

Emmanuel Akinluyi
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Didi is Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust’s Chief Biomedical Engineer and jointly leads one of the UK’s largest Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Departments. He is a practising Consultant Clinical Scientist holding doctorates in Healthcare System Design, on forecasting and extracting value from ‘Medical Technological Infrastructure’. He continues to lead work on modelling the impact of devices on patient outcomes. Additionally, he is a deputy Chief Medical Officer at Guy’s & St Thomas’, tasked with supporting technology translation, research, and innovation in practice development. He leads the development of GSTT’s ‘Technology Adoption Platform’ which accelerates and improves technology adoption.

Jennifer Whitby
Head of Systems Engineering, Leonardo UK

As an engineering leader, I have over 20 years of experience in the aerospace industry, with a focus on systems engineering. I have held senior roles at leading companies such as Leonardo Electronics, McLaren Applied and QinetiQ, where I have successfully grown and developed teams of engineers and trainers across various domains, including systems, supportability, safety, and training. My expertise lies in delivering complex engineering projects from concept to delivery, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance. I am currently Head of Systems Engineering for a line of business at Leonardo Electronics, responsible for the recruitment and development of a large department of systems and supportability engineers and trainers. As a Chartered Engineer and Fellow, I am passionate about continuing professional development, inclusivity and mentoring and champion this both internally and externally as well as encouraging our future workforce by volunteering as a STEM ambassador.

Hazel Woodcock
Managing Consultant at SEMP & President-Elect at Institute for Systems Engineering

Hazel has over 35 years of experience in systems engineering across the full lifecycle and encompassing a variety of industry contexts. Her deep specialism is in requirements management and verification; this extends to the associated change and configuration management. She also has a significant interest in quality management. As a leader, Hazel has managed teams, developed teams through upskilling, and mentored individuals including two 2025 UCL Systems Engineering MSc graduates. Hazel works for SEMP Ltd, who specialise in Systems Engineering. Hazel is also the current President Elect of the Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE) and will become President in November 2026.

Peter Graham
Practice Manager - Systems Engineering, Energy Systems Catapult

Peter blends a background in applied physics with over 20 years of industry experience in a variety of technical and engineering roles in sectors ranging from automotive, to high-tech manufacturing, defence & aerospace, and energy. Peter is a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) – accredited by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) – and previously held roles on several cross-sector working groups through INCOSE and the UK Space Energy Initiative. Peter balances technical and commercial expertise, helping deliver complex projects through a combination of systems thinking and systems engineering best practices.

Chris Day
Technical Director at Jaltek Systems Limited & Vice Chair of UKSpace SME Committee

With decades at the helm of product development teams, my mission has been to bridge innovative concepts to marketable realities. At Jaltek, my focus on electronics and manufacturing engineering has been pivotal in driving projects from inception through to full volume production. My role requires a deep understanding of production processes, complemented by a commitment to teamwork and structure. The skills homed in leading multidisciplinary teams are evidenced in our ability to deliver complex solutions in sync with client visions. Our team’s success is rooted in a shared dedication to strategic planning and cohesive execution.

Jacqueline Martin
Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Association for Project Management

An experienced senior leader in the professional body and membership association sector. I have a PGCE in post- compulsory education and training and spent over 20 years in teaching and management roles in adult education in the UK and overseas before moving into the not-for-profit sector. In 2005, I joined the College of Optometrists where I became the Director of Education and led on the development and delivery of high stakes assessment and training for UK optometrists. I now work as Director of Education and Lifelong Learning for the Association for Project Management, the Chartered body for the project profession. As a member of APM’s Leadership Team, I’m responsible for driving directorate and organisational success across APM’s qualifications, standards and continuous professional development content.

Greg Moore
Partner, PA Consulting

As a Chartered Engineering and Member of the IET, Greg has led sensor and communications system analysis, design, development and transformation projects in Defence for over 25 years. At present he leads PA’s work in UK MOD Defence Digital, including the application of SE to deliver secure physical-digital systems including fixed and satellite networks. Greg also leads PA’s team of 100 systems thinkers and engineers working on projects including electronic warfare system design and integration and developing the systems architecture which supports all Defence procurement decisions. He oversees skills and career development, Chartership applications and our SE MSc apprenticeship programme.
