About the department
Founded in 1921, UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) is located in the heart of London as part of UCL’s Bloomsbury campus. How can we use a better understanding of science and technology, and how it has shaped societies in the past and present, to build a better, more equitable future? At UCL Science and Technology Studies, we’re working at the intersection of history, philosophy and the sociology of science, to unpick big societal problems – and explore more integrated ways of addressing them.
Our teaching is classed as outstanding by students at every level. We consistently score high in overall satisfaction in UK National Student Surveys, and we routinely score well above our faculty average. We have substantial impact in history, policy research, and science communication. We welcome applications for study at every degree level (Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral).
