Environmental Statistics
This theme applies statistics and data science to environmental science and engineering, alongside new methods for these fields.
Theme Overview
Activities under this theme include contributions of statistics & data science to applications in any area of environmental science and engineering, broadly interpreted; as well as methodological developments with potential applications in these fields. Much of the research within this theme is interdisciplinary and collaborative, with strong links to other environmental science groups within and beyond UCL including the UCL Met Office Academic partnership, Earthquake and People Interaction Centre (EPICentre), Centre for Biodiversity and Environment Research and the Department of Geography.

Research Groups
- Methodology for Weather and Climate. This research group focuses on methodology for climate and weather modelling including uncertainty quantification, computer models, data assimilation and machine learning for climate.

- 2020-2022: Enabling The Use And Producing Improved Understanding Of EuroCORDEX Data Over The UK. £279K funding from Met Office, PI Richard Chandler.
- 2019-2022: Future Indonesian Tsunamis: Towards End-to-end Risk Quantification (FITTER). £433K funding from Lloyd’s Tercentenary Research Foundation, Lighthill Risk Network and Lloyd’s Register Foundation (Alan Turing Institute), PI Serge Guillas.
