Giuseppe La Rosa

Giuseppe La Rosa is the Departmental Manager in the Department of Science and Technology Studies.

Giuseppe joined the Department of Science and Technology Studies remotely in April 2020, in the midst of Covid-19. Before joining UCL, he worked in SOAS for a few years, first managing the curriculum data in the Registry team and then as a Department Manager.

He manages a team of two and works in close contact with his co-Heads of Department, the rest of the Academic team and students, ensuring a smooth running of STS.

“"Every day in my role is different, which is what makes my position really exciting. Althought UCL is such a big institution, I really enjoy the sense of community that I get from my Department and Faculty, and this is something that is not often easy to find when working for large organisations".

Asked about his work in the department, Giuseppe enjoys the variety of tasks available both within STS and across the MAPS faculty, as well as getting involved in areas and projects that are new to him.

“"As I am fairly new to my role, I am looking forward to getting involved in all of the processes that make STS such a great department, and to develop its plans and ambitions for the future with the rest of the team. Although I have only joined UCL recently, there seem to be many opportunities for personal development, even as we continue to work away from Campus."

Giuseppe moved to London from Italy ten years ago to undertake postgraduate studies, and enjoys spending his free time swimming at his local pool, as well as a good book and a nice soundtrack.

“"Moving to London was a real cultural shock at first, and it took some time to adapt to the hectic London pace (and have I mentioned tourists everywhere?). These days, I wouldn't trade living in London for anything else. I also love spending my Sunday afternoons wandering around unknown parts of London, and I can't wait to venture beyond the borders of my neighbourhood again once normal life resumes!"
