Inclusion and politics

We investigate issues and opportunities surrounding, gender, inclusion, and intersectionality in the context of disaster risk reduction and humanitarianism. We use qualitative and quantitative methodologies, developing awareness and responsiveness to these issues in the academic, practitioner and policy discourse. We consider the political context directly and indirectly, with some cases using a decolonial lens. Specific gender-related sub-topics include feminist peace research; gender quotas and women’s political participation, disasters and marginalised, informal workers and domestic workers. Our work has focused also on issues pertaining to wider international politics, environmental politics, and informal labour and rights, with the aim of driving meaningful change by influencing policy, challenging inequalities and fostering resilience in vulnerable communities worldwide.

Centre for Gender and Disaster

The UCL Risk & Disaster Reduction Centre for Gender and Disaster aims to develop awareness of and responsiveness to gender for risks and disasters through excellence in research, knowledge exchange, and teaching. 

UCL RDR Everyday Disasters and Violences Research Group (EDV-RG)

The Everyday Disasters and Violences Research Group is a multidisciplinary network of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners as well as advocates who investigate risks from everyday hazards and vulnerabilities such as gender-based and structural violences and systems of marginalisation.
