My doctoral research focused on the intersecting discourses of Indigeneity and climate change in Nepal. Using the analytical lens of gender and intersectionality, I explored how Indigenous identity is understood, upheld, and embodied. I further examined how the demand for the recognition of collective rights is framed amidst the unfolding ecological crisis, aspirations for development, contentious landscape of identity politics, and a history of cultural loss and erasure.
Drawing upon oral histories, archival and ethnographic research methods, I contributed to the wider scholarship on Indigeneity, gender, climate change and disaster narratives, and ecological and cultural loss in the eastern Himalayas.
