The CPS is primarily a virtual research centre, comprising planetary science researchers and engineers within the following groups at UCL and Birkbeck:
- Groups in the UCL Department of Earth Sciences: Deep Earth and Planets.
- Groups at UCL MSSL: Astrophysics - Planet formation and Exoplanets, and Solar System - Planetary Science.
- Groups in the UCL Department of Physics & Astronomy, Astrophysics Group: (Exo)Planetary Systems Group.
- Groups in the School of Natural Sciences, Birkbeck, University of London: Earth and Planetary Sciences, including Exoplanets and Astrobiology.
UCL Earth Sciences
Groups within the UCL Department of Earth Sciences: Deep Earth and Planets
UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory
Groups with the UCL Department of Space and Climate Physics, also known as the Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL): Astrophysics - Planet formation and Exoplanets; Solar System - Planetary Science
UCL Physics and Astronomy
Groups within the UCL Department of Physics and Astronomy: (Exo)Planetary Systems Group.
Birkbeck School of Natural Sciences
Groups within Birkbeck, University of London, School of Natural Sciences: Earth and Planetary Sciences, including Exoplanets and Astrobiology.
CPS members play key roles in planetary space missions such as JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer), ExoMars Rosalind Franklin, ARIEL (Atmospheric Remote-sensing Exoplanet Large-survey), and PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars). Members have also been involved with the Europlanet project that brings together Europe’s major planetary science centres and researchers.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
The Centre for Planetary Sciences at UCL/Birkbeck is made up of four departments from two institutes that are committed to supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) within their communities.
