Particle Physics Masterclass

UCL Year 12 Particle Physics Masterclass

Every year (usually in April) we invite year 12 students and their teachers to come and find out about the exciting world of Experimental Particle Physics from one of the most active Particle Physics research groups in the country.

Overview

The day will be a mixture of short talks by research physicists, discussion sessions and hands-on activities. You will have the chance to hear and ask questions about the Large Hadron Collider, the search for and discovery of the Higgs boson (thought to be responsible for the origin of mass), the properties of neutrinos (the tiniest elementary particles), and other topics at the forefront of Particle Physics research. You will use computers to study real particle collisions from the ATLAS experiment, and compare your results with students at other universities across Europe in a video conference led by scientists at CERN.
