Applications are now open for a range of fully funded PhD projects with UCL Risk & Disaster Reduction (RDR). These projects focus on earthquake risk, disaster early warning systems, climate impacts and environmental resilience.
TREES Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) Programme
UCL Risk & Disaster Reduction academics are also supervising projects within the Training, Research & Equity in Environmental Sciences (TREES) programme. Applications are open for the following projects:
- Geospatial mapping of global groundwater salinity using a data science approach with supervisor Professor Mohammad Shamsudduha.
- Digital twins for disaster early warning systems with supervisors Dr Saman Ghaffarian and Professor Ilan Kelman.
- Advancing seismic risk assessments through consideration of detailed fault geometries with supervisors Professor Joanna Faure Walker and Dr Roberto Gentile.
- Impact of climate change on the monsoon cycle in Southeast Asia with supervisor Dr Shipra Jain.

Through the UCL EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership, UCL RDR is offering a project led by Dr Roberto Gentile in collaboration with Willis Limited:
- Evaluating earthquake vulnerability models Develop new methods to benchmark and evaluate earthquake vulnerability models, addressing a critical gap in catastrophe risk modelling. The project offers training in probabilistic risk assessment, coding, and applied modelling, with opportunities to engage with the insurance sector.
