Engineering Systemisers will harness the power of educational games to promote engineering systems thinking amongst young people (targeting those aged 11-18) primarily in London. A team of engineers associated with University College London (UCL) and industry will work with local schools and college students to co-create interactive multi-sensory games, focusing on core systems thinking concepts to tackle some of the most challenging technology, society and environmental problems. The output game demonstration and exhibition display will be used as part of several public engagement events for a wide range of audiences locally and nationally.
Dr Mohammad Hassannezhad (UCL Centre for Systems Engineering), Project Lead, said:
The role of Systems Thinking and Engineering in our everyday life is imperative. But it has long been considered a difficult field to train new practitioners, perhaps due to its integrative nature which requires a deep understanding of a wide range of areas and their interplay in a complex and dynamic environment. This project provides a unique discovery-based learning yet fun experience to think and act like systems engineers and develop creative ways to increase awareness, inspire and educate young people (especially disadvantaged community) about systems thinking.
