The law society is currently investigating the impacts of algorithms on the UK legal system. Much debate has taken place in this space: there are considerable questions to resolve, ranging from automated systems to provide decision aide for parole - a question that has been much more controversial in the United States of America. Future decisions will require a blend of technical, philosophical and legal expertise, which is why the commission has three commissioners: Sylvie Delacroix from Birmingham (who is an expert on law and ethics), Christina Blacklaws (president of the law society, and a legal expert), and algorithms expert Sofia Olhede.
