The Humanitarian Institute is being launched by the Director and Deputy Director, UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR).
We are seeking to appoint a Research, Teaching and Knowledge Exchange Associate for the Humanitarian Institute, who will work with the IRDR Director, in conjunction with colleagues in IRDR and across UCL, to develop and deliver teaching on humanitarian issues at undergraduate and graduate levels; develop knowledge exchange partnerships with stakeholders, particularly around global humanitarian issues; work to secure philanthropic funding and commercial sponsorship; assist with workshops for professionals working in the humanitarian sector. The appointee will have opportunities to develop independent research. We see a primary role in the first year of appointment of developing a scoping study around the UK Research Council’s Global Challenge initiative for inter-disciplinary research and knowledge exchange aimed at increasing resilience in developing countries.
This full-time position is funded for 2 years in the first instance. The appointee will need to be available for extended international travel.
Salary: £34,056 - £41,163
Key Requirements
We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in a field related to humanitarian issues, resilience, disaster risk reduction or development. The candidate should have experience of translating research results into practice in a global humanitarian context and the ability to present complex information effectively to a range of different audiences. They should have the ability and commitment to produce internationally excellent research and the ability to develop teaching materials.
