Dr Afzal Siddiqui was invited to give the keynote address in the infrastructure stream at the OR56 Conference at Royal Holloway University of London (9-11 September 2014).
Entitled Operational Research Methods for Policy Analysis in the Power Sector, the talk explored how the strategic behaviour of power companies in a deregulated electricity industry interacts with regulation to affect social welfare and carbon emissions.
Its central message was that by anticipating the incentives of power companies, policymakers may be able to set appropriate targets for renewable energy in order to obtain socially desirable outcomes.
