  • UCLQ Visitors 2nd Call

The UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute (UCLQ) welcomes proposals from the UCL community for financial support to invite high profile visitors (from academia, industry and other organisations) to UCL to develop collaborative research ideas in the area of quantum science and technology.

Priority areas for this call are:

  1. Visitors from the industrial and end-user communities
  2. High-profile researchers from Centres of Excellence outside the UK
  3. Collaborations with the UK academic and industrial research community where access to the LCN cleanroom facilities is required.

Visits can range from a week up to three months and are expected to have the intention to lead to joint research publications. Visits that include activities to engage with wider research community at UCL and beyond are encouraged.

Applications are open to all UCL research and academic staff members.

Level of Funding

The QSTI will contribute funds toward travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses for the visitor’s trip, as well as costs for any events to engage with the wider UCL community. It is expected that each visit cost no more than £5,000, although higher budgets will be considered in exceptional cases. The award will also cover cleanroom access for up to 80 hours.

Please note all projects need to end (i.e. the visits need to be completed) by 31st March 2015

Criteria

Applications will be judged on their scientific quality and expected benefit to the UCLQ (and broader UCL) research community. We particularly encourage cross-disciplinary projects that bridge the gap between research and innovation, and those that bring visitors to UCL who have expertise that is complementary to that currently found here.

Application process and deadline

Proposals must consist of a completed application form (see below) as well as the CVs of the UCL applicant and the proposed visitor. For the first call, proposals should be submitted via email to Samantha Gan ( quantumadmin@ucl.ac.uk ) by 5pm 20th October 2014. All proposals will be evaluated by a panel comprising academics working in this field. All applicants will be notified of the decision by 27th October.

Payment

Reimbursement of expenses will take place after the visit, up to the agreed level, once receipts have been received. Please note that receipts are expected to be received within 3 months of completion of the project, and no later than 31st March 2015.
