Our scientific research ranges from cosmology and the study of extra-galactic objects, to studies of the Sun, the planets and their moons, the Earth, and humans working and living in space. We also research and develop the next generation of space instrumentation. Our research is supported through UK research councils, the UK Space Agency, European and other grants and contracts.
Astrophysics
In synergy with space science missions, members of the astrophysics group actively work on a wide range of astronomy and astrophysics.
Solar System
Using data from spacecraft thoughout the solar system, our solar system groups lead ground-breaking research into the Sun, Earth and planetary bodies.
Instrumentation & Technology
New technologies and advances in instrumentation through research enable us to build the next generation of scientific space instruments.
UCL Centres
MSSL has key roles in a number of inter-disciplinary UCL Centres, putting our researchers and engineers with other experts throughout UCL.
