Energy Reduction Campaigns

We encourage staff and students to think about their energy usage at work. To help save energy, we provide simple actions to reduce energy consumption.

Christmas & Easter Switch-Offs

Each year, we participate in the UCL Switch-Off Competition to help save energy by turning off unnecessary electrical items during the UCL closure days during the Christmas and Easter breaks. 

Weekend Shutdowns

To reduce energy waste over weekends, we encourage staff and students to:

  • Switch off lights.
  • Close windows. 
  • Turn off heating and cooling units.
  • Turn off computers and monitors, and unplug laptops. 

Efficient Computing

We encourage staff and students to practice efficient computing to reduce the amount of energy needed to power their devices.

Steps you can take:

  • Ensure good ventilation for laptops
  • Unplug laptops when fully charged
  • Put computers and laptops in sleep mode when left idle
  • Turn off computers and laptops overnight and at weekends, and unplug laptops
  • Turn off monitors when not in use

  • Reduce monitor brightness settings
