About Us

We have several people from the Department, both staff and students involved in our green initiatives. Find out more about the different roles we take on.

Our Green Team

We are made up of a range of people: academic staff, engineers, technicians, administrators, and students (PhD and MSc). We work on various strands throughout the year via working groups, such as: the Green Impact Workbook, the Sustainability Plan, funding applications, and most recently a new LEAF team. Beyond this, our team has had lots of other great ideas, such as the allotments, making suggestions to Estates for ways to make heating and lighting more efficient, researching solar panels, sorting out the waste system, waste-free shopping etc. This is a list of our current topics, but we are always open to new ideas:

 Our Sustainability Ambassadors

Each year we have a UCL Sustainability Ambassador, a current student who supports us with improving sustainability within the Department and helps us complete the Green Impact Programme. For 2024-25, we have two ambassadors working with us:

I decided to become a Sustainability Ambassador due to my passion for environmental change, driven by my studies where sustainability is a key focus. After graduating, I aim to work in sustainability and environmental  development with a focus on the Global South. Within the Department of Space and Climate Physics I aim to help the department become more green, with a focus on two projects including the possible implementation of E-bike chargers as well as improving Taviton Street garden’s biodiversity. I look forward to work with the department in making a positive change."

I became a Sustainability Ambassador to drive positive environmental change on campus. I aim to lead impactful initiatives, promote eco-consciousness among students, and enhance the UCL’s sustainability efforts. The projects I am working on with the department include proposals for the revitalisation of Taviton Garden and the implementation of E-bike chargers."
