Through close engagement with stakeholders as partners, the CDT is aligned to economic and societal needs ensuring students are trained in a holistic approach to tackling AMR

EPSRC and BBSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Engineering Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance

Engaging with external partners ensures that the in-depth scientific and engineering training is oriented to maximise impact and that the provided breath of training matches the dynamic requirements as dictated by AMR-related needs. Our broad spectrum of national and international partners is designed to match the breadth of the engineering challenges and opportunities posed by AMR. These partnerships stretch across a complex range of sectors and commitments, as befitting the AMR challenge.

Our partners include SMEs (GAMA Healthcare, TestLabs), global corporates (Pfizer, Dyson, P&G), NHS (RNOH, UCL Hospitals, GOSH), charity and governmental organisations (UKHSA, MHRA). The engagement with the public health sector is further enhanced by our supervisors’ involvement in AMR policy via panel memberships in key national (e.g., cross-council Steering Committee for AMR, UKHSA) and global (e.g., WHO) institutions in public health. Global engagement is also promoted via our supervisors’ ongoing research activities across the world, e.g., the development of therapies against antibiotic bacterial isolates common in Thai hospitals. Superb integration and translation into clinical contexts is further facilitated by a partnership with the UCLH Biomedical Research Centre. Besides public health, our non-academic partners cover fast-moving consumer goods, chemical, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, companies developing relevant platform technologies and equipment, and national facilities.
