We are excited to announce the launch of the new early careers researcher (ECR) group within CIREN - to be known as RICE: Researchers in Climate & Environment.
Event description:
Our aim, similar to that of CIREN, is to bring ECRs together from across disciplines to foster new connections and conversations surrounding the topics of climate change and the environment, from field observations to modelling approaches to informing policy. We also hope that RICE’s focus on ECRs will facilitate an informal social space leading to new collaborations or even just a spot to talk about current ideas or developments.
We hereby invite masters and PhD students to come along for our first meeting on the Monday 2nd March 2026 from 1:30 pm to 3pm in Room 129, 5 Gower Place (Department of Earth Sciences), although researchers at any stage of their career are welcome to join.
The proposed agenda is as follows:
Agenda:
- Introductions
- Suggestions and comments: what do people want to get out of this group e.g. social events / journal club / seminars?
- Lightning presentations
- UNRISK CDT Webinar - Machine Learning for Environmental Modelling (from 2pm to 3pm)
Lightning presentations will involve presenting one slide that highlights your research or research question that you want to answer (< 3 minutes). You are also very welcome to come along and listen instead.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and their research interests! We’ll get some funding for snacks also (obviously).
