UCL Physics & Astronomy is among the top departments in the UK for this subject area: UCL is consistently placed in the global top 20 across a wide range of university rankings - and is currently 4th in the UK in the QS World University Rankings 2024 for Physics & Astronomy.
Our large number of international collaborations provide opportunities to work with an international team, including at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, the Dark Energy Survey (DES) in Chile, and at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble.
Graduate students whose interests are more theoretical also have ample opportunities to gain experience overseas by interacting with a wide variety of international collaborations, some aimed at development of future quantum technologies, others at fundamental atomic and molecular physics or the foundations of quantum theory. The wide variety of training afforded leads to a high degree of employability in many different areas.
Join our in-person Graduate Open House Event to visit our campus, speak to current students and staff from the department in a casual setting and find out more about postgraduate study at UCL. These Open House sessions provide you with the chance to visit the department and find out more about our wide range of Master's programmes, how our programmes are taught, and what it's like to study at UCL.
