Workshop on Business Continuity in the Private Sector

This is the second in our career-focused IRDR Enterprise Workshops, which are an essential complement to our academic programmes. This series aims to enable students to identify their career goals and get best prepared to achieve them. 

This workshop will be led by Emily Warburton-Brown, an Operational Resilience Analyst at the London Metal Exchange. Emily is an alumna of UCL IRDR (Risk, Disaster and Resilience MSc 2015–17) with experience in organisational and corporate resilience. Before starting at the London Metal Exchange, she worked for the Canary Wharf Group plc and Rescue Global.

During the workshop, she will give an overview of how business continuity and all incidents across these organisations are managed, present a case of a hazard/ incident in this environment and lead the students to work out how the estate can continue its operations and limit the impacts of such hazards/ incidents.

About the presenter

I studied the Risk Disaster & Resilience MSc and graduated from the IRDR in 2017. I’ve had a varied career so far, and worked in a couple of different sectors and roles over that last 10 years, but the main theme running through them all had been the focus on resilience, looking at how people and organisations respond to major challenges and how to ensure they are adequately prepared. I currently work for the London Metal Exchange in Operational Resilience, and my role encompasses business continuity for the company, as well as ensuring that we are aligned to the new Operational Resilience guidelines. Prior to this role I worked in resilience for a large property management company, and I have also worked for a non-profit disaster response organisation and an airline. I am also a committee member of the ASIS Young Professional group in London, and I also hold the AMBCI qualification and have lots of experience of going through ISO22301 audits!
