Chemistry Light and Dynamics Seminar
Spectroscopy in superfluid helium
An overview will be provided of our experimental work exploiting superfluid helium nanodroplets to study molecules, molecular clusters, complexes, and molecular ions. Examples will be presented in each category and the talk will culminate in our most recent work, on small molecular cations tagged with helium atoms. As will be shown, the helium has a substantial, and perhaps surprising, influence in some cases, particular on the rotational behaviour of the molecular ion. Possible links (or not!) to superfluid behaviour will be discussed.
