The aims of the initiative are to develop a London-wide network, linking established and early career researchers within the Physical Sciences to allow access to experience, funds and knowledge and to encourage new collaborative research across institutions and accelerate the journey to publication.
Many early career researchers arrive at educational research from a completely different field but have a strong desire to improve the experience and success of students from undergraduate to postgraduate levels. However, there are few strong, local welcoming networks which would link new researchers to far more experienced researchers, exploiting the possibility of collaborative initiatives, especially across London. We want to change this.
The launch event includes:
- A workshop with Prof Michael Reiss, Professor of Science Education at UCL, covering research methods to improve HE teaching, publishing and more
- Talks from UCL researchers on published research
- The launch of a MAPS Educational Research journal club
- Short abstracts proposing future collaborations
- External speakers including Dr Holly Hedgeland, School of Physical Sciences, Open University
- Lunch provided
