Career path
Callum works in the sales team of a corporate sustainability consultancy, engaging with large publicly listed companies and major private firms. His role is very client-facing and he works to identify sustainability challenges within organisations, develop tailored solutions with advisory teams, and manage deals from early engagement through to negotiation and contract signing.
Day to day, his work includes outreach campaigns, building relationships with prospective clients, and collaborating internally to design solutions that align with both the client’s sustainability goals and their budget. He particularly enjoys the strategic aspect of shaping solutions once a client’s needs are identified.
The knowledge gained from my degree helped give me an instant ‘leg up’ in conversations relating to climate risk and adaptation.
Life at UCL
Before joining UCL, Callum had already been studying and working in sustainability for several years. He chose the MSc Risk, Disaster and Resilience course because he saw it as the flip-side of the ‘coin’ to sustainability, shifting his focus from climate mitigation to understanding the consequences of climate change and how societies respond.
He particularly valued the opportunity to engage in academic debates with leading experts in the field. The course’s interdisciplinary approach helped him understand the analytical foundations behind climate risk assessments, which proved valuable when collaborating with advisory teams and clients in his professional role.
