About the faculty
Encompassing the logical, experimental and mathematical study of our
universe, UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences (MAPS) consists of
departments highly rated for research excellence.
The faculty also
provides a base for a number of research centres and institutes: these facilitate
in-depth and interdisciplinary research through collaboration between
experts within MAPS, and in related areas in Engineering Sciences and
In addition, the faculty has its own interdepartmental undergraduate degree programme: Natural Sciences.
Front-line research feeds directly into our teaching programmes, and our students benefit from access to first-class laboratory facilities. All departments in the faculty are involved in teaching. The faculty offers an array of three-year BSc and four-year Masters-level MSci degrees in emerging as well as more traditional academic areas.
For graduate students, the faculty offers programmes ranging from one-year taught MSc degrees, through MRes (research masters) to 3-4 year PhD and EngD doctoral research degrees.
The faculty is part of the BEAMS School, alongside the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment and the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
