Facilities

The Lungs for Living Research Centre provides state-of-the-art tissue culture rooms and molecular biology laboratories to support world-leading research in the fields of lung cancer and airway stem cells.

The Centre is located within UCL Respiratory, which underwent major refurbishment in late 2015 by architects Hawkins\Brown. The facility was officially opened by HRH the Princess Royal on 10th February 2016.

UCL Respiratory contains dedicated histology facilities housing automated tissue processing and slide staining units, embedding centre, cryostat and microtomes. Our microscopy suite is equipped with brightfield and fluorescence microscopes, laser-capture-microdissection (LCM) instruments and an automatic slide scanner.

Ample office areas foster interaction between basic and clinical researchers in L4L, and collaborative work with the Centre for Inflammation and Tissue Repair and the Centre for Respiratory Biology, also part of UCL Respiratory.

The Centre has easy access to the Division of Medicine Core Flow Cytometry Unit and to the UCL Confocal Imaging Facility.
