Research synopsis

The fundamental question of my research is how do mechanics control expansion of the Lymph node during inflammation. In particular how a cellular network called the fibroblastic reticular cell network alters its cell intrinsic mechanics and responds to external mechanical cues during expansion of the Lymph node. Using in vitro and in vivo models I have used and established a number of techniques to probe the mechanical nature of the FRC network and begun to understand the function of mechanics in the tissue for controlling lymph node expansion. This work may allow us to understand new cellular pathways that we could target to boost or suppress immunity in a variety of physiological and pathophysiological processes.
