Cell and tissue biology is one of the most exciting and important areas of biomedical research.
Most cells function within tissues, with the breakdown of tissue function the basis of ageing and diseases such as cancer, inflammation, neuro-degeneration and pathogen infection. We foster collaborative multidisciplinary research and cutting-edge technology to promote imaginative and innovative discoveries in tissue biology. Learn about our research groups here.
Our research themes include:
- Tissue biology
- Cell organisation and dynamics
- Physical biology of the cell
- Cell growth and division
- Cell decision making
Our state-of-the-art technology development platforms include:
- Collaborations
The LMCB promotes a culture of local and global collaboration. Its location within UCL’s Faculty of Life Sciences facilitates interdisciplinary exchange across UCL faculties, including the Institute for the Physics of Living Systems, the Wellcome Optical Biology PhD Programme and many more. The close proximity of many research centres, including the Francis Crick Institute, Kings College London, Imperial College London and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, encourages a vibrant atmosphere of interactive, ambitious research.
