UCL partners with Newgiza University to help shape medical education in Cairo

UCL Life Sciences has been working with colleagues in Egypt to co-develop new medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programmes in the Cairo region.

Newgiza University

23 April 2021

The project, which kicked off in 2016, has involved faculty and staff from the UCL School of Pharmacy, Medical School and Eastman Dental Institute.

The UCL team have collaborated with their Newgiza colleagues in the planning, organisation, development and quality assurance of the three new programmes. Faculty development activities have run throughout, to ensure the programmes are run in an innovative, contemporary and student-centred way.

The project has paved the way for UCL’s ongoing collaboration with Newgiza University (NGU). We are supporting the university to become a beacon in medical education in the Middle East and North Africa.

UCL has also entered into a second collaboration to design and deliver two new undergraduate engineering programmes for NGU.

The original contract between the two universities was negotiated by UCL Consultants, part of UCL Innovation & Enterprise.
