Module outline:Students attend lectures covering 'Biology and Society' topic that highlight the role of biological/biomedical sciences in the wider world (social, political, ethical and conservation issues). Students also learn about their choices of modules in the subsequent years of their study. Students are assigned in groups to meet and interview one of the researchers from the Division of Biosciences and then present their findings to their peers. Interview questions include the education, career path of the researcher assigned to the group and also to find out the opportunities and challenges which they face as a scientist. 
Module aims:The course provides a formal framework for a range of activities essential to the completion of the degree programme, but which do not fall within the purview of the formal taught course unit structure. 
Module objectives:- to teach students current social, political, ethical and conservation issues related to Biosciences - to help students to make an informal decision on their choices of selective modules in subsequent Year 2 and learn about opportunities to study abroad - to expose students to on-going research in the UCL Division of Biosciences by meeting and interviewing one of the researcher - to teach students to work as a part of a team and give effective presentations  
Key skills provided by module:This module teaches key skills such as working in a team, public speaking and exposes them to the scope of Biosciences research in the Division.
