Module outline:This course provides an introduction to the mechanisms and types of information people use to recognise, comprehend and produce words and sentences of natural languages. A selection from the following topics will be covered: - Psychology of reading: deep versus shallow processing - Priming & frequency effects - Introduction to Experimental Design and Statistical Analysis - Spoken Word Recognition - Sentence Processing - Semantic Interpretation - Context and Reference Assignment  
Module aims:- To introduce the field experimental psychology as it applies to language processing. - To discuss key discoveries in the field and compare the major theoretical frameworks - To introduce students to experimental methodologies including the very basics of inferential statistics - To develop the ability to read primary literature in Psycholinguistics  
Module objectives:- That students understand how theories and models are evaluated in experimental psychology - To understand key concepts and theories from the field of Psycholinguistics as it applies to language processing - To understand how quantitative methods are applied in Psycholinguistic research
