Module prerequisites:PLIN1202 (Introduction to Generative Grammar B) or equivalent 
Module outline:This is a mid-level course in generative grammar, with a special emphasis on theories that govern word order. 
Module aims:To introduce students to questions related to syntactic derivation and movement, in relation to specific topics including nominal modifiers, verb arguments, adverb hierarchy, and structural dependencies. 
Module objectives:To give an overview of some of the ideas that have shaped the study of syntax since the development of Chomsky's Minimalism. To enable students to read and understand primary literature. To enable students to do a close critical reading and write a review of research papers, a skill which will be necessary when writing their long essay.
