Overview

This one-day CPD course will allow you to learn the essential requirements for getting back to practice and discuss any practicalities or challenges you may face. You'll spend a full day practising and refreshing your skills in preparation for returning to work after a break.

Teaching staff will demonstrate and offer guidance on the most popular clinical procedures in general dentistry (excluding endodontics).

A small class size allows the course to be tailored to individual needs.

This course is run by the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London which has a broad range of continuing professional development (CPD) short courses. These provide hands-on training from experienced staff in dedicated facilities.

    Course content

    You'll explore aspects of the preparation of teeth and your operative dentistry skills with practical close support, to refine and refocus your clinical skills for contemporary Restorative Dentistry.

    You can choose from the following exercises to practise on the day:

    • Crown preparation
    • Veneer preparation
    • Onlay preparation
    • Temporary crowns
    • Composite restorations
    • Amalgam restorations

    Who this course is for

    This course is suitable for all general dental practitioners who've taken a break from work and would like to refresh their skills in popular clinical procedures.

    You don't need to be GDC registered.

    Learning outcomes

    By the end of the course you should have gained confidence and refreshed your skills in the most common restorative procedures in general dentistry. 

    Structure and teaching

    This is a skills revision course with no lecture component. You'll be under constant supervision with staff available to give advice and demonstrations.

    CPD points and certificate

    The course will give you 6.5 hours of verifiable CPD. You'll also get a certificate of attendance.

    The fee is £450.

    Quality controls

    All Eastman teachers are experienced professionals. You'll be asked to submit written feedback via a questionnaire at the end of the course, which is used to monitor the course's quality of teaching and value for money.

    Prof Peter Fine

    Prof Peter Fine

    Peter has been a general dental practitioner for over 40 years before becoming a part-time lecturer in CPD at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in 2008. He currently has the grade of Associate Clinical Professor (Teaching) and regularly teaches on the Restorative Dental Practice programme Year 1 (Certificate). His main role on the Restorative Dental Practice programme is to supervise the MSc research students during their research year. This involves developing appropriate research projects, designing the research protocols and supervising the students undertaking the projects.

    He has been the lead for sports dentistry courses at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute for 8 years, developing the subject from treating trauma in sportsmen and women to understanding the dental needs of athletes and the role that general dental practitioners can play in supporting athletes with respect to dental and oral health.
