Restorative Dentistry: Adhesive Techniques for Replacing Missing Teeth

Overview

This one-day course will help general dental practitioners to develop specialist knowledge and skills in modern restorative techniques.

It will increase your confidence in the design and execution of:

  • indirect resin-bonded bridges
  • direct provisional bridges

It covers optimising restorative techniques that can achieve better results in everyday clinical practice.

The course provides 6.5 hours of verifiable CPD (continuing professional development).

The course is run by the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London.

Course content

You'll learn how to:

  • develop skills and confidence through the design and execution of minimally invasive indirect and direct adhesive bridges in order to achieve the best functional and aesthetic results
  • think through the concepts of missing teeth, treatment planning and ideal minimal tooth preparations

Interactive seminars

You'll take part in seminars on the following topics:

  • Restorative considerations for missing teeth - diagnose and plan for material success
  • How to plan and mock up cases
  • Preparation and cementation techniques
  • Tissue management and impression making
  • Clinical case discussions and examples

Hands-on laboratory training

You'll also have practical sessions on:

  • preparing abutment teeth for resin-bonded bridges
  • using rubber dam
  • cementation process
  • using fiber-reinforced composite resin for immediate provisional bridges

Who this course is for

It's aimed primarily at general dental practitioners, including newly qualified dentists who want to be introduced to specialist knowledge and skills in modern restorative techniques.

Entry requirements

You must hold an approved dental qualification.

Structure and teaching

The course will be delivered as a series of interactive seminars combined with clinical hands-on laboratory training.

Phantom heads offer the closest experience available to working on a live patient.

There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.

Learning outcomes

On returning to practice, you should be able to immediately implement the clinical skills learnt with increased confidence and competency.

These skills include:

  • accurately diagnosing and planning restorative considerations for missing teeth
  • planning mock-up cases
  • preparation and cementation techniques
  • using fiber-reinforced composite resin for immediate provisional bridges 
  • tissue management

CPD points and certificate

You'll gain 6.5 hours of verifiable CPD, plus a certificate of attendance.

Quality controls

All Eastman teachers are experienced professionals. You'll be asked to submit written feedback via a questionnaire at the end of the course, which is used to monitor the course's quality of teaching and value for money.

Dr Neil Nathwani

Dr Nathwani graduated from Guy’s Hospital with his BDS degree. After working in several posts including restorative dentistry, oral medicine and children’s dentistry (community and special needs) he was accepted onto the specialist postgraduate degree at Guys. He was awarded the prestigious Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) with a distinction from Kings College London.

Following completion of his MClinDent in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and MPros RCS, he was recognised by the General Dental Council as a Specialist in Prosthodontics.
