Research overview

Our department is home to an outstanding research culture that includes major funded projects in medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, nucleic acids, protein science, nanoparticles and pharmacognosy.

We conduct this research with excellent facilities supported by dedicated technical staff for:

  •  NMRspectroscopy (including a 600 MHz instrument with QCI-F probe and SampleJet suitable for protein-small molecule screening applications)
  • Mass Spectrometry (including a high throughput Agilent AdvanceBio LC-QTOF instrument)
  • HPLC and other capabilities such as cell culture, circular dichroism and peptide synthesis.

Further details of the research carried out in the department may be found in the Principle Investigator (PI) group pages.

Funding

Funding for research comes from numerous and varied sources including:

  • the Wellcome Trust
  • Cancer Research UK (CRUK)
  • Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund
  • the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR)
  • research councils (EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC)
  • The European Commission (EC)
  • Alzheimers’ Research UK
  • Antibiotics Research UK
  • the National Institutes of Health, and
  • the Rosetrees Trust.

Many industrial partners also contribute to the Department’s research.
