BSc/MSci Neuroscience
This Neuroscience BSc/MSci degrees offer you the opportunity to study the structure and function of the brain in one of the world’s greatest centres for Neuroscience. Unlike similar programmes, UCL students begin their study of Neuroscience and scientific practice in the first week of the first year.
The course also features options to undertake a work placement or extend to a four-year Neuroscience MSci. Our third and fourth-year students are able to choose their own research topics and to lead that research in a working lab.
BSc/MSci Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a fast-moving, exciting subject and UCL remains world-leading in this discipline. The subject of Pharmacology is immensely broad and covers areas of physiology, chemistry, neuroscience, biochemistry, and genetics.
The Pharmacology degree at UCL is a small, selective programme taking only ~30 students each year to maintain a good staff-student ratio and a warm and friendly atmosphere.
This flexible three-year programme offers thorough training in the subject and students retain the option of applying to transfer to the Pharmacology MSci at the end of year two.
MRes Biosciences
The MRes in Biosciences provides the opportunity to undertake a major research project in Neuroscience or Pharmacology and to develop the generic skills required for the written and verbal communication of science. The programme is designed for students who wish to undertake a PhD degree or to convert from other relevant disciplines and for those who wish to enter employment in an advanced capacity in industry or the public sector in the field of Bioscience.
Students can choose to graduate from one of twelve specialist areas which include Neuroscience and Pharmacology.
MSc Neuroscience
This Neuroscience MSc degree offers students the opportunity to study the structure and function of the brain in one of the world’s greatest centres for neuroscience. UCL and its associated institutes for neuroscience research have an outstanding global reputation. We have one of the highest concentrations of neuroscience researchers in Europe.
Co-operation with UCL’s Institutes of Neurology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Child Health, and the newly established Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour offers unrivalled opportunities to access research laboratories for your final-year project.
Summer Studentship
The Faculty of Life Sciences Alumni Summer Studentships offer undergraduates with an interest in research the opportunity to spend up to eight weeks in one of the FLS research laboratories. The studentships provide an opportunity to carry out an original piece of research under the guidance of a member of staff.
These projects are especially beneficial for students who are considering doing a PhD and want to get a better understanding of what doing biological or biomedical or pharmaceutical research entails. Many of our summer students have made a real contribution to UCL’s research, doing work that has subsequently been published and/or piloting new approaches or initiatives.
