On Monday 11th May, the Royal Society of Chemistry Chemical Biology Symposium was held, with sessions from leaders in the field, RSC prize winners and a poster session for early career scientists presenting their research.
Professor Akane Kawamura opened the symposium, followed by Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian, Professor Pietro Sormanni and Professor Zoё Waller receiving their RSC Prizes, with Professor Mark Bradley presented with the CBIC Presidential Medal.
Professor Zoë Waller has been awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry 2025 Jeremy Knowles Award, for contributions to understanding of nucleic acid i-motif structure and function in a cellular context using chemical tools and structural methods to unveil new therapeutic opportunities.
Professor Waller says “it was a lovely, well-organised event. I was particularly pleased to be able to receive the medal at the same event as my mentor and PhD supervisor, Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian, who was awarded the Chemistry Biology Interface Khorana Prize. A double celebration for nucleic acids!”
Professor Cate Whittlesea, Director of the School of Pharmacy “I am delighted that Professor Zoe Waller has received this prestigious award acknowledging her groundbreaking research in nucleic acid i-motif structure and function . This continued this pioneering work at the UCL School of Pharmacy in developing drugs that recognize and bind to DNA.”
