UCL spinout FABRX has won the King’s Award for Enterprise 2026 in Innovation, one of the UK’s most prestigious business honours. The award reflects over a decade spent turning 3D printing research into a working platform for manufacturing personalised medicines at scale.
Progress hasn’t come in isolation. FABRX credits a broad network of hospital, pharmacy, and regulatory partners, along with the clinicians and patients who adopted its innovations early, as central to its achievements. That collaborative foundation has also helped shape the regulatory frameworks personalised medicine now operates within.
From the two UCL School of Pharmacy founding partners:
Professor Alvaro Goyanes: “This recognition marks a significant milestone not only for FABRX and UCL, but also for the global advancement of pharmaceutical 3D printing. What was once considered a futuristic concept is now rapidly emerging as a clinical reality across hospitals, pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry. We are proud to be helping drive this transformation and remain committed to advancing the future of personalized medicine”.
Professor Abdul Basit: “This award reflects the innovation, dedication, and pioneering spirit of the entire FABRX team. Through their work, pharmaceutical 3D printing has evolved from a promising concept into a technology delivering real-world clinical impact”.
