Title: “Roles of systemic metabolism in disease”
Abstract:
Metabolism is critical for life and its dysregulation has been linked to major morbidities, including cancer, diabetes and infection. In this talk I will discuss our lab’s work on how cancer cells exploit glucose metabolism to survive stresses that they typically encounter in their microenvironment. I will then present evidence from mouse models that whole-body glucose metabolism also undergoes characteristic changes when tumours emerge. These host processes influence tumour development in part by altering anti-tumour immunity. Finally, I will discuss implications of our findings for the role of dietary nutrients in health, infection and cancer therapy.
