Talk abstract: The body is equipped with diverse immune cells that constantly monitor our organs and safeguard us from harmful bacteria and toxins. Some of these cells, such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and mast cells, are permanently stationed in tissues. Others, like neutrophils and monocytes, circulate in the bloodstream and are rapidly recruited to specific sites when needed. Motility and movement of immune cells are critical for tissue homeostasis and immune responses in the context of inflammation and infection. The talk will provide an overview of the wide spectrum of migration strategies among immune cells, ranging from swarming neutrophils to tissue-resident mast cells, and how chemoattractant sensing, cytoskeletal regulation and interactions with the surrounding tissue environment coordinates their responses and interplay.
