CLOE continues UCL’s extraordinary history in evolutionary biology. We aim to understand the principles that govern emergence and evolutionary trajectory, from cells to ecosystems, using tools from single-cell multiomics to population genetics, quantum biology and AI.
The origins of life encompasses the whole history of life on Earth from the origins of genes and cells to molecular machines, photosynthesis, eukaryotes, sex, multicellularity, animals, body plans, immune systems, sleep and more.
CLOE conducts fundamental research on how evolution shapes all aspects of biology, while training the next generation of scientists. If you’d like to join CLOE, we have opportunities from Master’s and PhD studentships to post-doctoral and independent fellowships and faculty
