During the inter war years, RWSW had an interest in the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was friends with the Transylvanian leaders Iuliu Maniu and Alexander Vaida and visited Romania in 1920, 1923, 1927 and 1929. In 1934 he published "A history of the Romanians". RWSW never revisited Hungary after the First World War, political leaders and press were hostile to him, however he maintained an interest in Hungarian minorities in other states. RWSW revisited Austria in 1923, 1927 and 1936.
