Visit of Duma members to Britain (1908-1912)

As a leading figure of the School of Russian Studies, Liverpool University and member of the Anglo-Russian Committee Pares was central in organising a visit in June-July 1909 of members of the Russian Duma including the President and leader of the opposition to Britain. The intention was to give the Russian parliamentarians an insight into British life, particularly the workings of the British Parliamentary system. It was also aimed to promote closer relations between Russia and Britain.
