Boxes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

By 1938 Czechoslovakia was increasingly threatened by Germany. The presence of a German population in the Czechoslovak territory of the Sudetenland and other areas was used by Hitler to demand territorial concessions. France and Britain failed to support Czechoslovakia and on Sept 30 1938 her Government was forced to accept the Munich agreement in which German occupied areas were ceded to Germany. Other areas of Czechoslovak territory were seized by Poland and Hungary. In March 1939 the remaining Czechoslovak state was occupied by German forces. During this period Lissicky was working in the Czechoslovak embassy in London.
