Auty Collection (1940-1971, mainly 1966-1971)

Phyllis Auty has been closely associated with Yugoslavia thoughout her professional life. During the Second World War she worked on matters connected with Yugoslavia in the BBC and the Political Warfare Department and the Political Intelligence Centre in the Middle East Department of Allied Forces Headquarters. Immediately after the war she visited Yugoslavia on behalf of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Organisation. She became reader in history of the South Slavs at SSEES and then professor of modern history and chair of the History Department at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada.

Contents

Papers relating to the League of Communists of Yugoslavia and in particular the 9th Congress of 1969. Other subjects covered include elections, the republics of Yugoslavia, trade unions and youth and students. Papers include documents from the 9th Congress, some Yugoslav press cuttings and numerous from the "Joint Translation Service Belgrade" bulletin of summaries of the Yugoslav press.
