Amfiteatrov Collection (1927-1936)
Aleksandr Valentinovich Amfiteatrov (1862-1938) was born in Russia. He became a fairly well known journalist and popular novelist. In 1902 he was exiled for writing a satirical article on the imperial family. He returned, then emigrated to France in 1905. During the First World War Amfiteatrov returned to Russia once more and in 1916 became editor of the nationalist newspaper "Russkaya volya". He left Russia for the last time in 1920 to settle in Italy. In 1927 he joined an anti-Soviet secret Society "Bratstvo Russkoi Pravdy" [Brotherhood of Truth]. He died at Levanto, Italy in 1938. This collection was originally deposited in the archives of Times Newspapers.

2 files of correspondence mostly concerning Amfiteatrov's membership of Bratstvo Russkoi Pravdy. The letters are from the society's leader, Sergei Alexandrovich Krechetov and another member known only as "Izyumets". The box also contains a typescript article giving background and commentary to the collection.1927=1936
